Doctor's Day Out

On the 24th of August, my brother, Ashton, and I went out for Paintball at Bukit Cerakah. It was his first time paintballing so he rented a Vest cause he was afraid of getting an infected wound(you know how cautious doctors are).

We arrived really early. Attendance were checked for 100+ people but there were les than 30 people at the camp site when we arrived. I started to explain to Ashton a few things about paintball and introduced him to my friends who arrived later and who were already there.

Soon enough we had our first briefing and the first game started and OMG! Because it was about to rain, my lense started to really REALLY fog up! Cause of that, I'm so going to attach a pair of fans on my mask when college starts and I go back up to Pasar Road. We only played one normal game and after that, it started to rain. Waited a while but it rained continuously a majority of the players decided to play in the rain.

Game Style: 20+ vs 30+
Duration: Until ammo or gas is depleted.
Respawn: Yes
Weather: Raining heavily
Lense Fogging: No but it was like driving during rain without using the windsheild wiper.
Winner: No idea. Just shot anything moving.

Paintball vs Golf

Golf Course

Golf is a luxury game of focus, patience and intelligence. Courses kept well maintained and clean for players while club houses with good food are always around. Clean and neat clothes are worn during play. A peace and tranquil environment is needed before a swing.

Paintball Field

Paintball games requires you to get dirty. Down into the dirt and bite the dust. Yeah thats right! Crawling on mud and being all rugged in our camouflaged clothings. Our fields could be anything from a thorned down, abandoned building to any point in a jungle. Our food comes only from our backpacks and is nowhere near a luxurious meal. Communicating can also be tough under certain situtations but "HELL YEAH!" we say and face havoc straight on.

Golf EQs & Paintball EQs

Paintball and golf are two very different games but no different when you say, its a "rich man's game". If golf is considered as a "rich man's game", paintball ain't that far behind. With our markers costing at least RM900 to over RM5k, just like golf clubs. Our worn-on gears costing us merely RM300+ just for the top! A golf ball can be reused over and over again until the dimples of the ball wears off or a crocodile eats it but in paintball, you gotta keep buying paint and it ain't cheap if you're on a paintball spree. Lets face it, paintball actually costs more than Golf in the long run.

Paintball Environment

During a Golf game, you're required to stay contented and make your shots wisely to make the best use of it and achieve the best score. Paintball on the otherhand requires you to think fast, making quick decisions under harsh conditions. Your feet may be numbed by the snow around you or sweet trickling down your face along with the scorching heat of the sun, you still have to make your decisions with split second timing. There are no rooms for mistakes. One wrong move and you're out for the rest of the round or worst, causing your team to lose. A man down is a weak link.

If Paintball had to Vs. Golf, I would give them a tie but its hard to decide where there are pictures like those:-

The Beginning!

Man was it one heck of a day! Games started around 10:30am and went on all the way till 5:00pm! Approximately 100 players turned up and thats sweet!

This area is in Lake Placid. Like mentioned in my previous posts, if there are enough players, more Teirs will be opened allowing a much more interesting game plan.

Because of the magnitude of this event, some marshalls had to hold sheilds such as this one..

It sheilds the in-field marshalls from crossfire. Taking 10 hits back-and-front isn't exactly how you would want to spell F-U-N.

Our main marshall, Adrian, an avid paintballer as well along with the other marshalls during the game. They ensured fair play. Everything went well except for....

....the first Lake Placid game when our opponents we're allowed to go on to a MUCH higher Teir and us being pinned down shouting "WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING UP THERE?!", "YOU'RE OUT OF BOUND!", "FILE AGAINST THE TEIRS!", "MARSHALL! THEY ARE OUT OF BOUND!". The game went on for a while longer but it started to rain so we pulled out and continued a new round when the rain calmed.

Btw, in this pic, that was me in lots of grass. I couldn't file up against the Teirs so I was in fire-range of the enemy but they didn't see me... Heheheh!

As we followed up with the game after the rain, we made certain of the Teirs opened to remove any confusion during game play and also, switch sides. A few others and I volunteered to be the runners. We took heavy fire upon arrival of the choke point. Some took hits while others held the line with me. As I realised we we're on the losing end....

...I crawled forward towards the enemy, hoping to be able to ambush the opponent while I'm undercover but unfortunate enough for me, I did not realise there we're such little cover ahead of me and at the same time, I WAS ON THEIR PATH! As they got too close, I opened to take an enemy out thus giving my position away and taking a bombardment of pallets and man, can they make you bleed!
Yes, I had some wounds because they were in such close range with me.

Took hits on my marker, shoulders, mask, fore arm and even my FINGERS weren't spared! Merciless shooters!

Towards the end of the day, a few of us wanted to get a taste of Speedball so we had a few rounds.
(A small dosage of Speedball each event is recommended) -Not joking

One of the rounds, our friend, Amanda who's first time paintballing since this morning and using a rental marker wiped out a whole team of 3 single handedly. It was really impressive tho I was on that team she cleaned out.

The Ending!

Well thats about it. Was pretty exhausted by the end of the evening and I had to wash up, have dinner, rest and be on my way to Luna Bar, KL with Emz , Meng and myself. I was invited by a friend so I took the opportunity to get Meng to come with me since I owed him a dinner for missing his 21st Bday.
(Btw, there were really hot girls coming up to us and dancing for us! Hey Claire, weren't you suppose to dance for us too?)

Runners- Players who runs into the choke point and holds the line till back-up arrives.

Teirs- Ground/floor levels.
Choke Point- A location where many players of opposing teams meet. There can be more than 1 choke point in a map.

This event is dedicated to all budding new paintballers or so themed newbies. However, in order to spice things up, seasoned players also can participate but with a condition:

So to all newbies dont worry if you see the rest having bigger, more canggih guns than you we have even the playing field by having everyone only being able to shoot like house markers, so what are you waiting for, get your friends, family, people you dont know anyone to come and try out this sport of paintball... My Items Priority List

1) Spare O-Rings and a multi sectioned box/kit.

Air is a combination of small molecules and therefore they escape from any space available(even little cracks). The O-rings are made to counter this problem. There are many O-ring sizes in a marker and on the Co2/HPA Canister. These O-Rings are made out of rubber and are vital parts in air functioned devices such as this. Because of the elasticity of the rubber rings, they fill up whatever gaps there are when two solid surfaces try to lock tight. Take for example the rubber ring in the cap of your water bottle as the O-Ring, the bottle cap and the bottle as 2 solid interlocking pieces trying keep the water from leaking out and water as the air in a marker. Without the rubber ring, water might leak but remember, water are already bonded molecules so they are slightly tougher to escape through small spaces.

2) Dark Jungle Camo
-Really tough material

Camouflage is one of the most important factors of survivability during play. It may not be useful in speedball or when the enemy has seen you but it still helps during any play. You wouldn't want to stand out like a yellow duck in the jungle would you? If you did so, you'll be a sitting duck to be shot at. Bare in mind that it is very useful to have a good camouflaged outfit in the jungle. The darker, the better. Light colours are great as well but when you start to move, you'll be easily spotted.

3) Black Boots

These boots aren't very good for speedball but they significantly protects the wearer from twisting his/her ankle during play. You could wear normal sports shoes in Speedball but in a Woodsball field, there are uneven terrains, roots, fallen logs, stones and many other random sized things you'll be stepping over and the last thing you would want in the midst of the game is to hear somebody screaming in pain. These boots are a must if you plan on going into the harsh terrains. Safety first! Just like your mask!
Tip: Don't get those shiny boots! and also, no cowboy boots, Puh-Lease!

4) Marker Sling

You can get these slings for free if you have laptop bags or any luggage bag at home which uses slings like these. There are those made for markers you can get for RM60-80. These slings will take off some weight off your arms when you are playing long games or when you're continuously using your marker throughout the day. It also helps when you're trying to load up your hopper during the game. Other times like when you need to crawl fast, its good to be able to toss your marker on your back and start crawling and just pull it back into action. Pretty convenient stuff but not a necessity.

5) Sports Watch
-Stopwatch -Compass -Terrain resistant

Yeah I know the picture above is just a compass but I'm trying to find a sports watch with an analog compass and not digital. Don't want to rely to digital navigation when the circuitry might get all haywire when I'm in the jungle. Next thing I know I'll end up in Vietnam's jungle! Hahaha. Compasses comes in very handy during scenario plays. Knowing where the target is without even having it to be in sight is one good way to flank in paintball. You can go one huge round and still not get lost if you know how to use a compass right. The stopwatch is also very handy when everybody is sync-ed and coordinated.

6) E-Grip

Again, this isn't a necessity but it helps out with your gameplay performance. The E-Grip allows you to fire at different modes, such as - Semi-Automatic; Trigger Response; Turbo; 3 Shot Burst a.k.a Ramping; Full-Automatic. Remember, the E-Grip has two types of circuit boards. The W.A.S board and the A.P.E Circuit Board. Will go into further details about them in the future.

7) Knee Pads

Knee & elbow pads are very important for both paintball and safety. It helps when you dive for cover or fall on them. With these equipment, you need not fear hurting yourself allowing you to play more aggressively. Need I say more?

8) Paintball Bandana

Hehehe.. Ok, I dont want to buy the two guys but I'm after whats on their heads. There are many colours of it like camouflaged types or pure black or bright coloured ones. This doesn't really help you protect yourself but the camo versions gives some blending into the environment advantage and they look cool!

9) Tactical Cap

The Tactical Cap isn't a must but it helps to keep a low profile especially when you're camping. The usual hoppers are placed really high above your marker blocking your view at times, taking hits or blowing your cover and therefore, you risk being called out. The usual hoppers holds approx. 150-200 paintballs but the tactical cap holds an approx. of 50 pallets. Isn't much so use your shots wisely. 50 shots, 50 kills.
Note: This attachment only fits on the cyclone feeder.

11) Steel Nail Filer

Can't seem to find a picture of a steel nail filer but I need it to file Alexis into shape.

12) Marker Bag

These bags are usually pretty long. Say about, 3 foot? Its used to keep your markers and other accessories which you may have. These bags are important if you don't have any other bags to keep your marker safe from the countries' legal theives.

13) Etc etc

I have other things in mind but they're really easily obtained plus not worth my while to find the pictures over the net and so on. :D

Bukit Cerakah Paintball!

Location: Bukit Cerakah, Shah Alam
Date: 20th July 2008
Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
Occasion: 4th time paintballing & devirginizing Alexis

Left the house to rendezvous with the guys at Subang Jaya(SJ) at 8:00am. Left SJ at 8:45am and arrived at Bkt Cerakah around 9:30am-10:00am. Distance traveled, 14km.

A pic of the entire safe zone.

A light buffet consisting of scambled eggs, baked beans, bread, tuna spread and water were provided for us to ensure we are at top forms for the day.

Sufficient tents are provided for everybody to get ready under.

A chrono machine is provided in their test firing area.

First come, first serve. You want the chilling spot first, you gotta come first. I didn't want it cause I don't want to be walking up and down when I'm exhausted later.

Violators will be banned!

Barrel socks are only allowed to be taken off in here where paintballers chrono their markers. There are targets to fire at.

Everybody prepared for the first game and took off at 11:00am.

GAME 1
Map: Sacred Valley
Terrain: Flat straight path with man made obstacles.
Objective: A single flag is to be taken from the middle and place in the opponent's base.
Time limit: 20 minutes.
Win: All enemy eliminated or objective is acheived.
Draw: Timeout.
Lose: Wipeout of team or enemy completes their objectives.
(This applies to both sides)

Marshals were up there to spectate. Players are not allowed up there.

(Ok, it has little turns here and there but its basically straight)

Me at their left flank, slowly making way with another guy through. There was a sniper on the opposite so we had to move under natural cover.

With the amount of cover I had, I could pop-up to scout out for enemies.

I was successful! I took out 2 or 3 players from the enemies' frontline's 8 o'clock. I had the time to line up my aim and open fire. I only lacked the Rate of Fire(Wasn't sure about hitting the 3rd guy). Would have been a true cleche if I could headshot 3 of them using only 3 pallets.

Game 1 Summary:
We played on the Sacred Valley. Its known for it's straight valley and flat terrain with man made obstacles in it and the hills along both the sides of the valley. These hills had natural cover from the jungle as it was thick. One should be aware of flankers and ambushes within these parts. We were given a 20 minutes break after the first round.

GAME 2
Map: Scorpion's Nest
Terrain: Square-ish map with uneven terrain throughout the map.
Offender's Objective: Capture both flags from the defending team and or eliminate all threats.
Defender's Objective: Defend 2 flags from it being captured by the Offenders and or eliminate all threats.
Time limit: 40 minutes.
Win: All enemy eliminated or objective is acheived.
Lose: Wipeout of team or enemy completes their objectives.

GAME 3
Offending team switched sides with Defending team but timelimit was changed to 15 minutes.

GAME 4
Map: ~Unknown~ (Was in the washroom during briefing.. dot dot dot....)
Terrain: Uneven, very thick part of the jungle with tones of places to hide in/behind.
Marine's Objective: Extract the VIP from the building.
Win: VIP is safely escorted to safe zone.
Lose: VIP is killed.
Terrorist's Objective: Prevent extracting of the VIP.
Win: Eliminate all Marines or kill the VIP after having contact or timeout.
Lose: VIP is escorted into safety.
Time limit: 40 minutes.
Side notes: VIP can only be harmed upon having contact with the extraction team. Enemy has possesion of the building and surrounding area. Ratio Marine:Terrorist, 2:1

In this map, I spent a whole lot of time stuck behind either tyres or a lil hill. Ran out of ammo too!

Speedball
Oh man, I really enjoyed this one. After my first experience in speedball, I started to fall in love with it but sadly enough, speedball is an expensive game. Costs more on everything! Marker types, more pallets, more gears! Nonetheless, I'll still play speedball with Alexis just not competetively.

Injuries
That shot I took right below my left arm has left me a scar. I got that from a friendly fire during the Killhouse game. Cheers to my first battle scar! Hahha and the other one I took a direct hit on my head from Chucky's Apex dive-bomb shots.

Went to Skirmish Paintball Asia last Saturday to get myself a paintball marker! Main objective? Get in, buy the marker, get out. It was simple.. but.. I was distracted during the mission and made a detour. During the detour, I noticed a few things in the shop. I needed a good harness for my Co2 Canister and I had my sights on the NXe Camo Harness.
